What Is Women's Business Council

Women's Business Council was formed in 1985, as a Committee of Urbana Chamber of Commerce. In 1990, WBC became a Joint Committee of the Champaign Chamber of Commerce; thus providing our members more opportunities to assume leadership positions within the community. From the beginning, the organization was open to all women employed in our community with the goal of providing a forum for members to discuss career goals, foster leadership skills, and increase professional contacts. That tradition continues today.
Our organization is built through the participation of its members on 11 different committees of the Council. Through the efforts of these committee members, WBC provides: Monthly luncheon programs and newsletters, recognition of members' personal involvement and professional accomplishments in the community through an active service fund, the opportunity to further our education through scholarship awards, the availability of social events for networking and the opportunity for participation in the Champaign County Chamber of Commerce.

WBC luncheons are held on the fourth Thursday of each month, with the exception of November and December as they are held at a different time due to the holidays. Each meeting includes a program relating to women in business. As a member of WBC, you have the opportunity to sponsor a monthly lunch meeting and to promote your company in the newsletter.

WBC is highly dedicated to assisting other organizations in our community. We participate in a yearly service event to benefit non-profit organizations in the community. Some of the past recipients are Crisis Nursery, Urban League, Center for Women in Transition, Relay for Life and Special Olympics, just to name a few.

Women's Business Council is committed to providing you every opportunity for personal and professional growth, and we will continue to afford you the opportunity to network with women in various industries and address the challenges that we face together.
